Workshop 2: Behind the Scene: Film and Images Collection

Archives serve as a valuable source of local history and memory, helping us to understand ethnic communities and their cultural identities that may not be fully represented in the national historical narratives. The preserved records, including sounds, photos and film archives, contribute to the collective memory of our society with diverse voices and representations.

Workshop 3: Unlock the Hidden Secrets of the British-Chinese Community

The British-Chinese community is not only defined by the tragic past of Chinese labour corps during World War I and Chinese seamen in World War II, but also by the contributions from various fields, such as literature, performing arts, media, and food business. Their resilience and creative works often provide an Eastern-Western perspective on identity, culture, and belonging, as part of the UK’s multicultural fabric. However, limited historical records, language barriers, cultural differences and societal neglect often result in the British-Chinese community being overlooked. The community stories and collective memories remain marginalised. We invite the public to address these challenges and explore different aspects of curating and exhibiting community memory in mainstream narratives of British history.
