The most rewarding moment was seeing ideas make community changed!
Before early morning meeting, I revisited Tooting Market and just wanted to say hi to the traders who kindly supported our research and teaching last year. I walked straight into a wonderful SURPRISE – one of the traders had completed transformed his stall (First picture Top: six month ago; Bottom: now)! Wow!
I still remembered meeting Howard last summer. He was one of long-standing traders, struggling to boost sales after the pandemic. After observing how customers navigated his space, I suggested a few simple but manageable changes:
- Removing one of the glass shelves to open the layout;
- Adding tables and chairs so customers could stay longer; and
- Refreshing the stall with colours that reflected his cultural heritage.
Today I’m surprised by these changes! Even better news? His sales have increased since then!
