Cycling

Since the lifting of lockdown restrictions in March 2021, businesses, social activities, and cultural events in London have gradually returned to normal. Outdoor activities, in particular, have gained popularity among people seeking health and well-being benefits.

In 2021 July, the London Borough of Waltham Forest organised “Le Tour de Waltham Forest”, a family day out for those who are new to travelling by bicycle and those more experienced riders who want to get to know the borough better. The event runs again in 2022, with seven different routes across two days. Their living map for cycling is very impressive! It shows walking and cycling routes, as well as other cycle services and sports and leisure facilities. This map is very useful for first-time visitors exploring the Borough’s resources, especially welcoming by its destination branding!

The Attractiveness

The attractiveness of Waltham Forest includes the William Morris Gallery, L.Manze, The Wild Card Brewery Barrel Store, God’s Own Junkyard, Eat 17 Restaurant and others.

The William Morris Gallery has attracted our attention in particular. If you have an interest in English textile arts, you simply cannot miss William Morris (1834-1896). As one of the most significant cultural figures in Victorian Britain, William is renowned for his textile designs and his dedication as a revolutionary socialist activist. The Gallery also displayed some of his socialist views and poems.

On the Gallery’s official website, we discovered another notable resident, Edward Lloyd (1815-1890). Through his immensely popular penny dreadful serials, he expanded his newspaper business, including Lloyds’s Weekly Newspaper and The Daily Chronicle. Lloyd also introduced various innovations such as the rotary press, advancements in paper-making, and advertising techniques.
