Students’ Fieldtrip
In 2019 November, I organized a field trip to Apsley House with my master’s students to explore the role of English Heritage in heritage preservation and urban tourism development in the UK. As all of my students were international students, they had no prior knowledge about English Heritage and its Blue Plaque Scheme. Therefore, the field trip was designed as a combination of a self-guided tour and reflective discussions. Prior to the visit, I provided the students with a list of questions to guide their exploration.
- What is the significance of Apsley House?
- Who is the 1st Duke of Wellington? What is his achievement?
- Who is Robert Adam? What is his achievement?
- How many fine and decorative arts collections are in Apsley House? Which one is your favourite? Why?
- Assess the blow facilities and give your own justification.
- What are the main visitors’ characteristics and behaviours?
- Indicate two interpretative devices/experiences that facilitate visitor engagement.
